US Marines Conduct Maritime Interception Operation

US Marines boarded an Iranian-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Monday during a maritime interception operation targeting what American officials described as suspected violations of sanctions enforcement measures at sea.

Footage released by CENTCOM shows a military helicopter hovering over the vessel as troops are deployed onto the deck during the boarding operation.

The exact date and location of the footage shared by CENTCOM cannot be independently verified.

Tanker Searched Amid Sanctions Enforcement

US forces searched the tanker and issued instructions to the crew before allowing the vessel to continue its voyage under altered course conditions, according to operational updates.

Earlier reports indicate that American forces have increased maritime enforcement activity in the region in recent months, including the interception and redirection of commercial vessels suspected of attempting to bypass restrictions linked to Iranian oil exports.

The United States maintains a sanctions regime against Iran that includes restrictions on the export and transport of Iranian crude oil.

Under this framework, US and allied naval forces monitor vessels suspected of carrying Iranian oil or attempting to conceal origin and destination routes. Iran has repeatedly condemned such operations, describing them as unlawful interference with commercial shipping and violations of freedom of navigation.

Regional Tensions Continue To Escalate

On Monday, US President Donald Trump told reporters he had been ready for a ‘very major attack tomorrow’ on Iran – but claimed Gulf nations had asked him not to. Those countries later said there weren’t aware of any imminent strikes.

Strait Of Hormuz Crisis Persists

A ceasefire was declared in April, with proposals reportedly exchanged between the sides via Pakistani mediators. The Strait of Hormuz crisis has continued, with Iran closing it to ‘unfriendly’ countries and the US blockading Iranian ports.
