As spring breathes life into Japan, the foothills of Mount Fuji transform into a vibrant masterpiece of nature. The annual Fuji Shibazakura Festival at Lake Motosuko is drawing crowds from around the world to witness this ‘pink sea’ set against the breathtaking backdrop of a snow-capped Mount Fuji.
Footage filmed on Tuesday in Fujikawaguchiko Town, the gateway to the Fuji Five Lakes region, captures millions of pink moss phlox flowers, known as shibazakura, unfurling into a floral carpet as visitors walk through the park and take pictures.

“Here at Fuji Motosuko Resort, the festival runs from April to May, showcasing approximately 500,000 moss phlox plants of six varieties across about 1.5 hectares. The spectacular view of Mount Fuji alongside the blooming moss phlox is truly unforgettable,” said visitor Masaki Hosoda.
“This unique sight of moss phlox with Mount Fuji can only be experienced here, so I encourage everyone to relish this seasonal beauty,” he added.

The air is sweetened with the scent of fresh blooms and local festival treats, such as Sakura Mochi, enjoyed by visitors wandering the winding floral paths or capturing perfect reflections in the water.
The shibazakura bloom across the vast landscape at the foot of Mount Fuji stands as the largest collection in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
