A quiet public space in MacPherson has become a bright and creative attraction after famous Vincent van Gogh paintings were recreated across a neighborhood void deck. Located at Block 56 Pipit Road, the area now welcomes residents and visitors with colorful murals inspired by some of the Dutch artist’s best-known masterpieces.
Famous Paintings Fill Public Space
The project, known as “The Van Gogh Void Deck Art Gallery @ MacPherson,” features large murals painted directly onto the walls and pillars of the building. Visitors can easily recognize famous artworks such as The Starry Night and Sunflowers, along with a portrait of Vincent van Gogh himself. Bright yellow and deep blue colors now cover the once plain concrete space, giving the area the feeling of an open-air museum.

The art gallery first began in 2011 with support from a creative community group called Social Creatives. Since then, volunteers and local artists have continued maintaining the murals to keep them fresh and attractive. Information displayed at the site explains that the project was created to make the neighborhood more lively and enjoyable for residents.
Interactive Gallery Experience
Unlike traditional galleries, the paintings are not displayed inside frames. Instead, artists painted directly onto the structure of the void deck itself. A map placed near the entrance helps visitors locate each artwork around the area, turning the experience into a small art adventure for families and tourists.

The space also includes playful modern details. Small murals of cats and dogs appear near the lower parts of the walls, adding a friendly and cheerful atmosphere. These extra touches help make the gallery appealing to people of all ages, including children and elderly residents.
Bringing New Energy to MacPherson
Residents walking through the void deck can now stop to admire the artwork, take photographs, or simply enjoy the colorful surroundings. What was once an ordinary shared space has become a unique neighborhood landmark that celebrates art in a simple and accessible way.

The project also highlights how public housing spaces in Singapore can be creatively transformed into community attractions. By bringing world-famous artwork into a local neighborhood, the MacPherson gallery offers residents a fresh and inspiring environment in their daily lives.
