Fireworks factory blast – At least 26 killed as massive explosion rocks Liuyang

Deadly Explosion Rocks Liuyang

A vast curtain of smoke blanketed the city of Liuyang in Hunan province on Tuesday following an explosion at a fireworks plant that left at least 26 people dead and 61 injured.

Footage shows window frames and doors blown off by the force of the blast at the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company complex.

Fire trucks can also be seen rushing to the site as nearly 500 firefighters, rescuers and medical personnel were deployed to carry out emergency operations and treat the injured. Robots were also used to search for people trapped inside the building.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation Ordered

The explosion, which occurred at around 4:40 pm local time (08:40 GMT), injured at least 61 others. Authorities evacuated residents within a three-kilometre radius of the plant.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a thorough investigation into the blast and accountability for those responsible.
