A strange incident in southern China has drawn attention after a woman threw a large amount of cash from a high-rise building. The event happened in Shantou, located in Guangdong Province, and quickly caused confusion among nearby residents.
Sudden “Money Rain” in Residential Area
The incident reportedly took place on Friday morning at a housing complex in the Longhu District. Witnesses said the woman appeared on her balcony and began tearing banknotes before throwing them into the air. The notes were Hong Kong dollars, mainly in large denominations.

Reports suggest the total amount could have reached around HK$2 million (approximately SGD 340,000). As the money fell from above, people nearby rushed to collect the notes from the ground. Some residents confirmed that the money was real.
Possible Domestic Dispute
Local reports indicated that the incident may have been linked to a personal argument between the woman and her husband. However, the exact reason for her actions has not been officially confirmed.

Property management staff later stated that the money was thrown by a resident, but they could not explain the reason. They also urged anyone who picked up the cash to return it to the management office or local authorities.
Police and Authorities Respond
Police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the situation began. According to local authorities, the case has been “handled,” though further investigation is still ongoing.

The Zhuchi Police Station in Longhu District confirmed that they are looking into the matter. Officials have asked members of the public to cooperate and return any money they may have collected.
An official statement is expected to provide more details about the incident. So far, neither the woman nor her husband has made any public comment.
The unusual event has attracted wide attention due to the large amount of money involved and the sudden nature of the incident.
