Three weeks after the sudden death of her husband, 39-year-old Thandar Lin is now fighting for her own life in a Singapore hospital, as her nine-year-old son waits anxiously for the only parent he has left.
A fundraising campaign launched to support her treatment has raised S$41,456 out of its S$80,000 target, leaving about S$38,500 still needed, with just 17 days left at the time of writing.

Thandar’s condition took a devastating turn shortly after she learned that her husband had died in his sleep on 13 March. Overwhelmed by grief, she began experiencing chest tightness and difficulty breathing before suffering a severe heart attack days later. Today, she remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where her heart is reportedly functioning at only 20 per cent.
Her Heart Gave Way After Her Husband’s Passing
According to the fundraiser, the heartbreak of losing her husband was followed by a medical crisis of her own.
Doctors are still working to understand the full extent of the damage to her heart, describing her condition as complex and unusual. Her blood pressure has been dropping unpredictably, while fluid has begun building up in her lungs, making it increasingly difficult for her to breathe.

Every day remains uncertain as she moves in and out of the ICU. Thandar underwent an angiogram and had to be defibrillated to restore her heart rhythm, with a preliminary diagnosis pointing to cardiomyopathy.
An update posted on April 13 said she had been taken for a full body scan and remains in ICU while the family awaits results.
A 9-Year-Old Boy Waits for His Mother
While Thandar fights for her life in Singapore, her son, Zwe Myat Min, remains in Myanmar under the care of his grandmother. The child is already grieving the recent loss of his father. Now, he faces the terrifying possibility of losing his mother too.

The fundraiser describes Thandar not just as a patient, but as a mother whose only wish is to survive and return home to her son.
“To live. To go back to her son. To not leave him alone in this world.”
Those words have resonated strongly online, as donors rally around the campaign.
Medical Bills Continue to Rise
Her medical bills have already exceeded S$60,000, and doctors estimate another S$10,000 to S$20,000 may be needed for further tests and treatment to stabilise her condition. The remaining funds will also go towards her son’s education and future.
Her employer’s daughter, Maya, said Thandar has long been more than a domestic helper to their household. Now, they are hoping the public can help support her in return.
Every Donation Brings Her One Step Closer Home
With more than half of the target already reached, the campaign is now in its final push. For many, this is more than a fundraiser.
It is a chance to help a mother’s fading heart keep beating long enough for her to return to the son who still needs her. Every contribution brings Thandar one step closer to going home.
