Unexpected Village Discovery

A man in central China made a rare and surprising discovery while preparing a duck for food. In February, a villager named Liu from Longhui County in Hunan Province found small gold particles inside the duck’s stomach.

The weight reached about 10 grams, and the value was close to 12,000 yuan, or around US$1,800. This unusual case quickly gained attention because it reminded people of old gold hunting stories. The duck had lived freely near a river where gold mining once took place many years ago. According to sources, the moment of discovery attracted strong public interest online.

Gold Found Inside

After finding the particles, Liu tested them by heating. The result showed that the pieces were real gold. Experts say ducks often swallow small stones or mud while searching for food. It is likely in this case that the duck swallowed soil, which contained gold particles. Gold cannot be absorbed by the human or animal body, and hence it normally goes through the digestive system and does not cause any damage. However, large or dirty pieces may still cause health problems. Similar findings have been reported in rare situations near old mining areas.

River With History

The discovery site lies near the Chenshui River, which runs across Longhui County. This river was once known for gold deposits. From the 1970s to the 1990s, many villagers searched for gold there before the government banned private mining.

Even today, traces of gold can still be found in the soil. Local officials said that villagers found over 10 grams of gold while washing sand in the same river last year. Because of this history, the recent discovery does not seem impossible, though experts still need to confirm the details.

Verification Still Needed

According to the explanations given by the local authorities, a professional check should determine whether the particles are solely comprised of gold. The gold ownership is ambiguous, as all underground resources are under state ownership according to Chinese law.

The case is popular on social media and attracted millions of views within a few days. The question that many individuals ask themselves is how this kind of discovery can be made today. Although it was a rare case, this event demonstrates that nature may still throw some unexpected surprises even in the areas where gold mining is a long-standing and relatively old practice.
