Rescued From Puppy Farm In Critical Condition

Two young Corgi brothers rescued from a suspected puppy farm in Singapore are now undergoing intensive medical treatment after being found severely malnourished and ill.

Huey, aged nine months, and Dewey, 11 months, were discovered underweight, with heavily soiled coats and signs of prolonged neglect. Both dogs later tested positive for Giardia following emergency veterinary examinations.

A healthy Corgi of their age typically weighs between 9kg and 13.5kg. At rescue, Huey weighed just 4.2kg while Dewey weighed 4.7kg. Dewey’s condition deteriorated rapidly, with his weight dropping to 3.5kg within days, placing his life at immediate risk.

Rescuers said he survived after receiving urgent treatment at an emergency veterinary clinic.

Huey Faces Time-Sensitive Orthopaedic Surgeries

While Dewey continues recovering from infection and malnutrition, Huey has been diagnosed with multiple congenital conditions requiring urgent surgery.

Veterinary specialists confirmed that Huey suffers from severe hip dysplasia and Grade 4 patella luxation, meaning his hips and kneecaps are significantly displaced. Without corrective procedures, he risks developing permanent and painful arthritis at a young age.

Doctors have advised that corrective knee surgeries must be carried out before April, before his growth plates close. Hip surgeries are expected to follow after recovery.

Both brothers were also born with cryptorchidism, a condition involving undescended testicles that significantly increases the risk of testicular cancer if untreated.

Long Recovery Expected After Surgery

Beyond surgery, Huey is expected to undergo extensive rehabilitation, including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, to help rebuild muscle strength and relearn proper movement.

Rescuers said rehabilitation will be essential to ensure he can walk and move comfortably in the future.

Dewey Continues Fragile Recovery

Dewey remains under close monitoring following his near-fatal infection. Caregivers report ongoing digestive issues linked to malabsorption, requiring continued medical follow-ups, medication, and nutritional support.

He is also described as highly fearful, reacting strongly to everyday sounds — behaviour believed to stem from trauma experienced before rescue.

Once stabilised, Dewey will also require sterilisation and dental treatment.

Community Fundraiser Nears One-Third Of Target

The brothers are currently cared for by foster volunteers rotating between homes to manage their medical needs.

A public fundraiser titled Two Tiny Fighters: Saving Dewey and Funding Huey’s Urgent Surgery has raised S$11,142 so far from 145 donors, towards a S$36,000 goal covering surgeries, treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up care.

Rescuers say continued support will determine whether both dogs can fully recover and eventually be adopted into permanent homes.
