A group of extreme athletes set a record by performing curling and biathlon elements at an altitude of 1,700 meters at a temperature of -20°C.
Footage shot in Central Russia on Tuesday shows famous skydiver and basejumper Sergei Boytsov and Brazilian athlete Carol Chafauzer doing sports on a platform attached to a hot air balloon floating in the clouds.
Russian Air Sports Federation President Ivan Menyailo stressed the uniqueness of the project combining winter disciplines and aviation sports.
“We are used to the traditional division: Olympic sports – winter sports, summer sports – and non-Olympic sports. Our current project brings together different sports: Olympic sports – winter ones – biathlon, curling, and aviation sports – skydiving and ballooning,” he said.
Chafauzer revealed that she had come to Russia for the first time in her life, noting that everyone was welcoming and very nice to her.
“I’m very happy to put together these two nationalities, two countries. <…> Sports brought me so many good connections and this is what I’m looking for when I go to a place. I look for activities, I look for sports, I have amazing friends that I met because of the sport, and Sergei is one of them,” she added.
