In a shocking incident in Kuching, Sarawak, a video of a plainclothes police officer being dragged along with a moving car has gone viral on social media. The incident took place on the afternoon of January 31, when the police were trying to arrest a burglary suspect at a house.
The video shows a police officer hanging from the door of a white Perodua Viva. The incident has caused a huge stir in the public. The police later confirmed the incident and gave a detailed explanation. The issue once again highlights the risky role of the police in security and crime prevention.
Chasing the Suspect
Kuching OCPD Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu said that the police identified the suspect at around 1.30pm. The man was heading towards the city along the Kuching-Serian road. He had been under surveillance since the investigation into a house vandalism case reported the previous day.
In addition, he was also suspected of being involved in several motorcycle thefts in the Bandar Kuching area. When the police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect refused to cooperate. Instead, he tried to escape.
Dangerous Moment
According to the police, the situation became more dangerous when the suspect suddenly drove away. While trying to open the car door, a policeman got caught in the moving car. After a while, he fell on the road and was injured.
At this time, other policemen continued to chase. Dashcam footage shows that the entire incident happened in a moment. Although the policeman’s life was at risk, the operation was not stopped.
Finally Arrested
The police said that the suspect was detained near the flyover in the Taman Berjaya area. While fleeing, he hit several cars. Later, he was arrested and tested, and evidence of drug use was found. Further investigation revealed that he has at least 20 previous criminal records against him. The injured policeman was reported to have suffered injuries in various parts of his body. However, his condition is stable.
