Streets Filled With Protest
Demonstrators took to the streets of Barcelona on Saturday to demand a ‘comprehensive’ implementation of Spain’s arms embargo on Israel and voice their rejection of Washington’s Gaza peace strategy.

Footage shows protesters chanting as they marched with Palestinian flags and signs reading, ‘all with Palestine,’ ‘end relations with Israel,’ and ‘resistance is not terrorism.’
Anger Over US Role
Protesters denounced President Donald Trump’s Gaza ‘peace council,’ accusing the US leader of attempting to frame himself as the ‘saviour of Palestine’ while allowing Israel to ‘continue the genocide.’
“Trump has set up a peace council that is actually a council to plunder Palestine in a colonial manner, where partners have to invest directly. The situation is incredibly brazen, and we cannot allow it to become normalized,” one said.

“Trump, with his peace plan, seemed like he would have the situation a bit more under control,” another added. “The situation has not only failed to improve, but it remains the same, and from what we know, it has even gotten worse in a certain sense.”
Spain Under Fire
Critics also accused Spain of acting as an Israeli ‘trade hub,’ claiming the government is dodging its own arms embargo.
“They promised this embargo, applied it, and conveniently wrote a clause—the first appendix—in which they allowed the embargo to be broken if it was in the national interest,” one protester commented.

Embargo Controversy Continues
In September 2025, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government turned Spain’s temporary suspension of arms sales to Israel into a permanent legal ban, claiming Tel Aviv was carrying out a ‘genocide’ in Gaza.

The embargo includes an exception allowing approvals if a denial would be “detrimental to the general national interest,” which was used to authorize a transfer of Israeli-made defense equipment to Airbus in Spain, drawing outrage from pro-Palestinian groups.

Israel has strongly rejected accusations of genocide in Gaza, asserting that its forces only targeted Hamas positions and infrastructure while accusing the militant group of using civilians as ‘human shields.’
