A Cancelled Viewing and an Unexpected Rescue
A routine Sunday in Yishun took an unexpected turn after a property viewing was cancelled at the last minute.
Instagram user @awkwardrealtor, identified as Zameer Serlan (IG bio: Your awkward cousin in real estate, resident of Yishun), shared that the cancellation led him to be at the right place at the right time.

“Viewing got cancelled last minute and it was God’s plan to put me there because He knows that I’d do whatever it takes to rescue them,” he wrote. “What an adventure Yishun has gotta offer. I love Yishun.”
Screaming from a Drain
In the video, Zameer explained that he was on his way home when he heard what he described as a “screaming mother quail” and aggressive chirping coming from a nearby drain.

He later clarified in the comments that the bird was a female red junglefowl, not a quail.

Curious and concerned, he decided to investigate, discovering several chicks trapped inside the drain.
One Chick at a Time
Zameer documented the rescue step by step, rating the difficulty of each attempt:
-
Rescued Baby #1 – Difficulty: 1/10

-
Rescued Baby #2 – Difficulty: 4/10

After returning home to change, he went back when he realised there were still chicks inside.
-
Rescued Baby #3 – Difficulty: 6/10

With the mother nowhere in sight, he placed the chick into a cardboard box, noting he could not risk it falling back into the drain.
He then made one final trip down.
-
Rescued Baby #4 – Difficulty: 8.9/10

A clip showed him holding the last chick, visibly sweating from the effort.
The Search for the Mother
The rescued chicks were eventually brought back to the area to look for the hen.

The video ended on a celebratory note: “REUNITED!!!” One chick was seen running to the mother, followed by another moments later.
His Wife’s Perspective from Home
Zameer’s wife, @leeshuhada, also shared a video of the same incident, offering a second perspective.

“I had a shoot at home today. My husband went out to get food for us. Tell me why he ended up rescuing baby quails downstairs,” she said, later clarifying the situation as it unfolded.

She explained that four chicks had been stuck in a drain and that while Zameer managed to rescue all of them, the mother initially disappeared.

While keeping the last two chicks at home, she attempted to feed them and kept them warm in a box before heading back out to search for the hen. The effort eventually led to a successful reunion.

Her caption read:
“If this happens every Sunday I wouldn’t mind living in Yishun for the rest of our lives 😝”
Online Reactions
The rescue drew praise and light-hearted comments from viewers:
“Well done bro! I rescued a chick from an open canal and panicked with my wife because it was evening and then was nowhere to be found. Fortunately we found an adopter who knows what to do”

@awkwardrealtor replied:
“amazing rescue work! i’m glad there was an adopter to help!”
Another asked how Zameer was sure there were no chicks left in the drain.

Zameer responded:
“until no more chirping inside the drain 🥲”

“Omg you’re a champion. I can’t believe you went down that drain 👏”
From a cancelled appointment to a muddy drain and a reunited family of junglefowl, it was a Sunday adventure that many online said only Yishun could deliver.
