A large portion of young people in Singapore opt for a secure corporate job after graduating from a polytechnic or university. The idea of a steady salary, fixed working hours, and career growth is considered the most acceptable in society. However, recently, a young man has come to the fore with a different decision.

He left his full-time job to build his parents’ family business. While this decision may have been unexpected for many, for him it was a necessary step that responded to the call of time. Through this journey, a story of sacrifice, legacy, and the perspective of a new generation has emerged.

Childhood Struggle
Since childhood, he has seen how his parents worked tirelessly to manage both the family and the business. Working long hours day after day and giving up personal comfort was their daily reality. Seeing that struggle up close had a deep impact on him.

Gradually, he came to understand how difficult it is to build a business and how much patience is required. This experience is what instilled in him the mindset of being an entrepreneur. Over time, that seed has become stronger.
The Lure of the Safe Path
After graduating from polytechnic, he joined a corporate job like everyone else. He followed what society considered normal and safe. However, he soon felt that he was stuck in a kind of ‘rat race’. His purpose in the daily routine was beginning to fade.

In the meantime, a realization shook him—his parents were no longer as young as they used to be. And time, once gone, never comes back.
Returning to the Family Business
It was from this realization that he made the biggest decision of his life. With his parents’ permission, he decided to join the family business AR-Link Services. His goal was not just to collaborate, but to adapt the business to the digital age. He prioritized building an online presence, branding, and digital identity.

Although this path is not easy, he believes that real progress lies in learning. Despite the possibility of failure, he is ready to take that risk.
On the Path to the Future
Currently, he stands between his old life and his new dream. Whether this journey will be a success or a failure, only time will tell. But one thing is clear—he is fully committed to this decision.

Such initiatives by the new generation in the SME sector of Singapore are becoming an inspiration to many. His goal now is not just to keep the legacy alive but to build it anew. And he wants to have everyone by his side on that journey.

@arlinksg I left my full-time job to join my family business, to step into something far more uncertain, but far more meaningful. While most people my age were fresh out of graduation, chasing titles, promotions, and the next rung on the corporate ladder, I was doing the same, until I realised something important. Careers can wait. Time with family can’t. So I made a choice that scared me. I stepped out of my comfort zone to stand shoulder to shoulder with my parents, to learn from them, struggle with them, and build something together. Not just a business, but a legacy. I chose family over familiarity. Purpose over predictability. This is why I joined my family business, A R Link Services, and this is why this journey means everything to me. Curious on what we do?
