Purrs & Meows Cat Sanctuary Issues Urgent 10-Day Appeal

A local, independently run cat sanctuary in Singapore has issued an urgent appeal for donations, warning it has just 10 days to raise essential funds to avoid eviction and keep its rescued cats sheltered.

Purrs & Meows Cat Sanctuary, which rescues and cares for sick, injured, elderly and special-needs cats, said it needs to raise S$5,340 to cover basic overheads, including rent and utilities.

In an Instagram post shared two days ago, the sanctuary described the amount as the bare minimum needed to keep the lights on and prevent its cats from losing their only safe refuge. Without the funds, the sanctuary says it has no backup location to relocate its rescues.

A Small Team Running on Donations and Personal Funds

Purrs & Meows Cat Sanctuary is an independent organization run by Tiffany Heng, who is a cat rescuer and the founding member of the sanctuary. She established the sanctuary to offer shelter and care to the cats that would otherwise struggle to live on the streets.

Cat feeders bring many of the felines here, with the intention to save them from dying outside. Some need care for a long time or through their whole life, while others are getting ready for adoption through rehabilitation.

The sanctuary is heavily dependent on its out-of-pocket costs and public donations, as well as on Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage (TNRM) operations in the industrial zones of Singapore.

Monthly Strain and Ongoing Medical Cases

According to the sanctuary, the mid-month period is consistently the most financially difficult.

On top of overhead costs, Purrs & Meows continues to manage multiple ongoing medical cases involving cats with chronic and complex conditions, including:

  • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
  • Renal failure requiring daily subcutaneous fluids
  • Asthma and pancreatitis
  • Pelvic fractures and dislocated limbs

Many of the cats require sustained veterinary care.

Duchess’ Case: Rare Congenital Condition, Mounting Bills

In a separate medical appeal posted yesterday, the sanctuary shared an update on Duchess, a rescued cat diagnosed with a rare congenital bladder defect known as bilateral ectopic extravesicular ureteroceles.

The condition, more commonly seen in dogs, was confirmed following contrast X-rays and ultrasound scans at Atlas Veterinary Clinic. The scans have since been sent overseas for a specialist’s second opinion.

The latest vet bill totalled S$1,309.50.

The sanctuary said its bank balance had dropped to S$12 following the payment.

Nova Still Hospitalised, Previous Bills Unpaid

Another rescued cat, Nova, remains hospitalised at Animal World Veterinary Clinic after being bailed from AVS custody.

Nova is receiving treatment for a chronic calicivirus infection and an untreated abscess wound below her ear. While her fever persists, vets say her kidney, liver and glucose levels remain stable.

The sanctuary has already paid a S$530 deposit, but is still short of funds after the clinic requested an initial S$1,000 deposit.

What Purrs & Meows Needs Right Now

The sanctuary is appealing for help in three key ways: donations, sharing their appeal, and public support.

For medical donations, please indicate “MEDICAL” as multiple appeals are running concurrently.

2. Share Their Appeal

The sanctuary said that even sharing their posts could help reach someone able to contribute.

3. Reach Out

Enquiries can be made via Instagram DM @purrsnmeows_sg, WhatsApp 9182 3184, or the contact buttons on their profile.

For now, the sanctuary says it is operating on the edge.

The cats under its care, many of whom are elderly, ill or recovering from trauma, depend entirely on the shelter remaining open.

Every dollar raised brings them closer to staying safe under one roof.
