A young couple fought back after chasing down their kidnappers in a dramatic early-morning incident in Bandar Jaya Putra, Johor. At 3:30am on 16 January, Friday, two men on a motorcycle stopped them in front of their car in a secluded area. The couple lost two iPhones and a wallet after being threatened.

But the incident did not end there. In a bold decision, the young man started a chase in his car. The chase, which lasted about two kilometers, created a sensation in the area.

The Moment of the Robbery

An 18-year-old waiter and his 19-year-old girlfriend were inside the car. Suddenly, the two suspects started asking for their identification cards. Then, they threatened them with an object that looked like a Taser.

The couple, frightened, gave them their phones and wallets. The suspects quickly drove away on a black motorcycle. The situation was very scary at that time.

Counter-Chase

After the robbery, the young man wasted no time in giving chase in his car. He followed the suspects for about two kilometers. At one point, the motorcycle was making a U-turn when the car hit it.

This caused the motorcycle to fall off. However, the two men got up and fled on foot. Tensions then spread at the scene.

Police Investigation

Johor Bahru South Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said that the suspects are still at large. Operations are underway to identify and arrest them. The stolen goods are worth an estimated RM7000 (around S$2222).

The case is being investigated on charges of armed robbery. There is a provision for long imprisonment and caning if convicted. The police warned that in such situations, one’s own safety should be the priority. However, all aspects of the incident are being investigated.

Netizens’ Reactions

There have been mixed reactions on social media regarding the incident. Many people think that this is a brave example of self-defense. Others say that even if you report it to the police, it is difficult to get the stolen goods back.

Some netizens see the identification of the motorcycle’s number plate as progress in the investigation. At the same time, advice has also been given to not give chase at risk. All in all, the incident has sparked intense public debate.
