Amber Czech, 20, was brutally attacked as she entered her workplace this morning at a food and dairy processing plant in Cockatoo, Minnesota. The incident occurred at the Advanced Process Technologies (APT) plant around 6 a.m. Tuesday, 11 November. Police said they responded to a 911 call and found a woman bleeding from a serious head injury, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance Footage Of The Incident

The Wight County indictment states that the co-worker, 40-year-old David Bruce Delong, was captured on CCTV within moments of the incident. The video shows him leaving his station, going to Amber’s workplace, picking up a hammer and hitting her in the head multiple times.

He was later arrested at the scene without any resistance.

Premeditated Murder

Delong admitted to investigators that he did not like Amber and had been planning to kill her for a long time. Prosecutors say the incident was premeditated and that a second-degree murder charge is pending. But a first-degree murder charge is also being considered, which could lead to a grand jury.

Netizen’s Reaction

The video has since been viewed countless times online, and many people have expressed outrage online. Many say that the media is often using the word “unalive” to describe the incident in a soft language, which is unacceptable, even though a woman was brutally murdered.

Others comment that women are not safe anywhere today; at home or at work—they are at risk simply for their very existence. Many have called for stricter laws and safety measures against violence against women in the workplace.

Family-Teacher’s Sorrowful Memory

Amber Czech’s family said that she was an excellent welder and loved going to work. She developed an interest in learning welding in high school.

She completed her welding technology program at Alexandria Technical and Community College in the spring of 2024. Her former teachers and coaches say Amber was hardworking, enthusiastic and brought joy to any team.

Organization’s Condolence Message

After the incident, APT said in a statement that it was “deeply saddened by the news of the loss of their employee and is taking all necessary measures to support the staff.” Processing operations at the site have been suspended for a week and administrative staff are working remotely.
