Thailand is often thought of as a paradise of sparkling beaches, bustling nightlife and street food. But there is also a deeper, cultural and artistic side to this country.

For those looking to spend their vacation in a new way, some destinations around Bangkok and Pattaya may be ideal. Explore six unique places where Thailand’s modernity, tradition and excitement come together.

Sanctuary of Truth – The majesty of the wooden temple

This spiritual architectural masterpiece, Sanctuary of Truth, is located just a short distance from the bustling beach town of Pattaya. Thai billionaire Lake Biryaphan began construction of this huge wooden temple in 1981. Surprisingly, the entire structure is built of pure wood, not a single metal nail was used!

Inspired by the architecture of the Ayutthaya era, this temple brings together religious philosophies from Thailand and all of Southeast Asia. Although still under construction, it is open to visitors with artwork, a woodcarving workshop, and a small museum.

This is undoubtedly a ‘must-visit’ place for those who want to enjoy cultural beauty along with spiritual peace.

Lamaya Bangkok – Rooftop luxury with a touch of jungle

Located on the 30th floor of the Sukhumvit area, Lamaya Bangkok is like a dreamy version of a jungle lounge. Afternoon tea zone, sky jungle, live jazz, light and fire shows—all together, it is the most Instagrammable rooftop spot in the city.

The unique mix of Italian and Thai fusion cuisine—such as carbonara with a Thai twist or signature cocktails—set this place apart from the rest.

Whether it’s a date night or a special moment for yourself, every corner of Lamaya sparkles with a touch of magic.

Mahanakhon Skywalk – The New Definition of Adventure

If you’re a thrill seeker, then Mahanakhon Skywalk is your next destination. The world’s first “outdoor leaning ride” — Mahanakhon Bangkok I-Tilt — lets you stand on glass and look down at the city skyline at a 65-degree angle!

This ride, built by a German engineering firm, is completely safe and meets EU standards.

The view of the entire Bangkok from the 75th floor is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Wat Arun – The Enchantment of the Temple of the Sun

Standing on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun is one of Bangkok’s traditional symbols. The central spire of this temple, adorned with white ceramic tiles and colorful glass mosaics, offers panoramic views of the city.

King Taksin established his capital here in the 18th century. Even today, this temple stands as a symbol of Thailand’s cultural roots. Your Bangkok trip would be incomplete without seeing Wat Arun, lit up at sunset.

Hop-on Hop-off Boat – Bangkok by River

This service on the Chao Phraya River is a great option to avoid Bangkok’s traffic jams. With a one-day unlimited pass, you can easily visit the Grand Palace, Wat Arun or Chinatown.

Standing on the open deck of a double-decker boat and seeing the city with your hair blowing in the river breeze is a completely different experience. This is a great way to see Bangkok without the hassle of traffic.

Chocolate Ville – A touch of Europe in the land of chocolate

Finally, head to Bangkok’s Chocolate Ville—a European-style theme park and restaurant complex, where colorful architecture, creative set designs and amazing dining experiences are found at every corner.

The beautiful gardens of The Conservatory Garden, the cozy seating area of Summerset Cottage, and the vintage structure of the Village Post Office all are as beautiful as a picture.

The highlight here is the adorable capybaras—you can even see them being fed if you time it right.

There are also various chocolate-themed souvenir shops, where you can buy various gifts starting from 268 baht (S$10.80). There is no entrance fee at all, so it is a great destination for the whole family.
