A Taste of Malaysia Takes China by Storm
Malaysian satay is winning hearts abroad after a street stall in Nanjing, China, sold out in record time.
Operated by Malaysian TikTok user @/sinwantz_, the stall managed to sell 1,500 sticks in less than an hour, drawing a massive crowd of curious locals eager to try the smoky, peanut-sauce-coated skewers.
Authentic Flavours with Festive Presentation
The stall owner served the satay with traditional accompaniments of nasi impit and cucumber, priced at 10 Chinese yuan (about RM5.90) for three sticks.
Despite being more expensive than typical local snacks, demand was overwhelming. Many latecomers left disappointed as the stall quickly ran out of stock.
Adding to its charm, the vendor appeared in a bright green baju Melayu, matching the stall’s festive green setup — a colour often associated with celebrations in Malaysia.
He connected with local customers with his friendly demeanour and fluent mandarin. Customers were fascinated by both the flavours and cultural presentation.
Viral Success and National Pride
Videos of the event have gone viral on TikTok, with clips of the long queues and lively atmosphere racking up hundreds of thousands of views.
Many Malaysians flooded the comments to express pride and joy at seeing their beloved street food gaining international attention.
“There’s a long queue in Japan, there’s a long queue in China — Malaysian food is truly great,” one user wrote, referencing similar viral moments from abroad.
Malaysian Cuisine’s Growing Global Appeal
This satay craze follows similar scenes at the 2025 Osaka Expo, where Malaysian roti canai sold out within hours. Both incidents highlight how Malaysian flavours are steadily capturing global palates.

As one viewer put it, seeing crowds in China queue for satay “makes Malaysians proud to see our street food making waves abroad.”
