On Wednesday, 16 October, during a press conference at Nirvana Centre Kuala Lumpur where her daughter’s wake was held, Wong Lee Ping, mother of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, claimed that her daughter was stabbed “200 times, not 50 as reported.” She urged Malaysians to stop spreading rumors, as investigators await forensic confirmation.

“The truth is she was stabbed 200 times, from the neck to the lungs and also on her legs,” Wong told reporters at a press conference held at the Nirvana funeral home in Kuala Lumpur.
“Some websites said my daughter was stabbed 50 times, but that is false.”
Mother Fights Misinformation, Demands Dignity
Wong expressed her anguish as much at the brutality of the act as at how the narrative had been twisted online. She denied claims that her daughter had any prior relationship with the suspect, or that she had been sexually assaulted — both of which had circulated on social media.
“My daughter is already a victim. Please stop circulating fake stories about how she died,” she appealed.

She also stressed that her daughter had never complained of harassment, that they did not know the suspect, and that her character was that of a bright, disciplined young woman.
She went further to warn against fake donation campaigns using fraudulent QR codes, advising sympathy should translate into respectful acts like paying respects in person.
Police Hold Fast: Autopsy Needed
Authorities have yet to confirm Wong’s figure. They are awaiting the full autopsy and forensic report before releasing an official count of stab wounds. Selangor police have so far confirmed only that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest.

Police say statements have been recorded from dozens of individuals linked to the case, including students, teachers, and family members. The 14-year-old suspect has been remanded for one week to assist in the murder investigation.
Investigators have also recovered a handwritten note from the suspect, hinting at psychological turmoil. Authorities emphasized that mental health evaluation for the suspect will only proceed after formal charges and court direction.
The Bigger Picture & Unanswered Questions
The sheer scale of the alleged wounds, if confirmed, indicates a level of violence and intent that goes beyond a spur-of-the-moment act. Wong’s insistence on truth and dignity reflects the burden borne by families in high-profile cases, where public speculation often overshadows the human loss.

As the investigation continues, Wong’s public plea and her grim claim now stand as central parts of the emerging narrative awaiting forensic certainty.
Authorities state that they are awaiting autopsy reports to verify the family’s claims.
