Kids Flee, Cry After Seeing White Woman at Laos School; Video Sparks Online Buzz

In a video by @/christieonthestreet on TikTok, an unusual scene was captured at a school in rural Laos.

The video, posted on 19 September, showed startled children at a local school in the village running, trying to hide and crying at the sight of the white female visitor.

Children’s Dramatic Reactions

Initially appearing puzzled in the clip, the woman quickly realised what spurred the particular reaction from the children–her appearance.

Students were observed ducking behind chairs, blackboards and peeking from corners in an attempt at staying hidden.

The woman laughed, bewildered at their reaction, and later explained that the reaction was due to a lack of tourist footfall at that specific region.

Cultural Curiosity

She suggested the children might already have notions about foreigners, particularly white people, which contributed to their startled response.

The video quickly went viral, with viewers speculating on cultural perceptions and the children’s unfamiliarity with outsiders.

In a later video, the children were seen less scared, even dancing and mocking the woman, clearly not too startled after their initial reaction.

Viewer Reactions

The post received mixed reactions online, with netizens expressing both surprise and amusement at the encounter.

Many questioned why the woman continued to go into the classrooms despite the kids’ reactions.
