What was meant to be a joyous wedding celebration turned into a heartbreaking moment when the groom’s father passed away during the couple’s reception.

The incident, which took place on the day of the wedding ceremony, left the bride, groom, and their families in deep sorrow.

News of Father’s Death Breaks During Photoshoot

The tragedy was shared by the wedding photographer, who uploaded the emotional moment on TikTok under the account @/fotorasi.

The photographer captioned the post: “A happy occasion turned into sorrow, life and death are in God’s hands. May the late father of the groom be placed among the righteous. Let us recite Al-Fatihah (prayer) together.”

The bride later explained in the comments that her father-in-law had been ill just days before the ceremony.

“Two days before the wedding, my father-in-law was supposed to be admitted to the hospital because of a lung infection. But he decided to go home so he could attend the reception. Right after we completed the solemnisation, we received a call saying that he had passed away. Later, we were told the cause was a heart attack,” she wrote, Buzz Kini reported.

Bride Shares Her Side of the Moment

The bride further revealed on TikTok Story that the call came while she and her husband were having their photoshoot.

“Right after this shoot, I was the one who got the call. At that moment, the photographer, MUA (makeup artist), and my friend all looked at each other in silence. My husband, who had been standing earlier, immediately collapsed onto the chair,” she recalled.

Following the news, the couple rushed to Johor Bahru for the funeral arrangements before returning to Perak.

Father Witnessed Solemnisation Before Passing

Sirap Limau reported that the groom’s father had managed to witness his son’s akad nikah (solemnisation) the day before his passing.

Despite his health condition, he had made the effort to return home to celebrate the important occasion with his family.

The touching video has since gone viral, amassing more than 3.1 million views on TikTok, with netizens flooding the comments section with condolences and prayers.

Netizens Sympathise and Share Similar Stories

Many viewers expressed their sympathy and offered condolences to the couple, with some also sharing similar painful experiences.

One commenter recounted a memory that still haunts her:

“I’ve been through something like this, too. On a wedding day, while the bride was doing her makeup, we got the news that her younger and older siblings had been in an accident while collecting the wedding cake. At first, we thought it was a light accident, but it turned out to be fatal. Despite the heartbreak, the parents and the bride remained strong. They went ahead with the solemnisation, but right after, they waited for the bodies to arrive for the funeral prayers. The next day, instead of a wedding feast, it became a memorial. Until today, it still hurts me deeply.”

Another user supported the couple’s decision to leave the ceremony immediately:

“The couple did the right thing by leaving. Family is more important than anything else. A wedding is just a custom. My condolences to the family. May the late father be placed among the righteous. Al-Fatihah.”

A wedding photographer also shared a personal experience:

“As a photographer, I’ve gone through this too. Early in the morning, my client texted me saying his father had passed away after Subuh (dawn) prayers. But he still wanted to continue with the ceremony since relatives had travelled from far away. He only requested not to smile or look too cheerful. There were no portrait shots either. After attending to the guests, the event was quickly wrapped up.”

One user admitted that the thought of such a situation had once crossed their mind:

“I’ve sometimes imagined something like this happening, and honestly, I don’t know what I would do if it did.”

A Day of Mixed Emotions

What should have been a day filled with love and celebration instead became one of grief for the newlyweds.

While the pain of losing a loved one overshadowed their wedding day, many have praised the couple for their strength in facing such a profound test.
