Student Stabbed Outside School on August 19
On 19 August in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a 15-year-old Class 10 student, Nayan Santani, was stabbed by a junior. The attack took place just outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Khokhra.

The Class 8 attacker used a foldable box cutter to stab Nayan in the stomach. He was rushed to a private hospital in Maninagar but died hours later during treatment.
Accused Detained Under Juvenile Act
Police quickly detained the main accused, a Class 8 student, under the Juvenile Justice Act. Another juvenile suspect was also taken into custody by the city’s Crime Branch.

Officials confirmed the crime scene was not captured on CCTV cameras. The Forensic Science Laboratory is now examining the phones of both minors for evidence.
Long-Term Conflict and School’s Failed Intervention
Authorities uncovered a four-year pattern of rivalry between Nayan and the accused. The school was aware of recurring clashes but failed to intervene effectively.
Officials transferred the case to the Crime Branch amid criticism of police response. Investigators are now probing both the bullying history and the institution’s lapses.
Chilling Chat Reveals No Remorse
Police recovered WhatsApp and Instagram chats between the accused and his friend. In the exchange, the accused admitted the stabbing with indifference.

He wrote, “Tell him that I killed him… Whatever happened has happened now.” The boy claimed the victim provoked him by saying, “Who are you? What will you do?”
Parents and Activists Storm School
The killing triggered major protests across Ahmedabad on August 20 and 21. Parents, relatives, and ABVP activists vandalised school property and clashed with staff.
Police booked nearly 500 protesters for rioting and damage worth an estimated ₹50 lakh. The state education minister urged calm but promised strict action and an inquiry.

Families accused the school of serious lapses in student safety. Parents claimed first aid was delayed and blood was washed away before police arrived.
They also alleged harassment, indecent behaviour, and unchecked weapons on campus. Officials are now reviewing security and disciplinary failures at the institution.
Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation
The Ahmedabad Commissioner transferred the case to the city’s Crime Branch. Officers are combing nearby CCTV cameras to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities reportedly called the forensic team 12 hours late, raising concerns about lost evidence. Officials ordered the school to shut for two days while inquiries continue.
