Dangerous Stunt Unfolds on Active Tracks
Authorities in Odisha, India, arrested three minors on July 5 after one of them attempted to record a social media reel by lying on a railroad track while a speeding train ran over him.
In the video that quickly went viral online, one boy is seen lying motionless between the rails while a train approaches at high speed.
The risky act took place near Dalupali, close to the Purunapani railway station. Video footage shows the boy stretched out between the rails as a train rushes past.
After it clears, he jumps up unharmed while others cheer and record the moment.
Reel Culture Sparks Alarm
The video quickly drew police attention, leading to the detention of all three boys involved. Authorities said the stunt was reckless and put lives at serious risk. The teen seen lying on the tracks reportedly admitted the group hoped to gain social media fame and did not expect the act to be so dangerous.
Officials confirmed the boys were taken into custody for questioning and could face charges under railway safety and public endangerment laws. They also urged parents to stay vigilant about their children’s online activity to prevent similar incidents.
According to police statements, the boy who performed the stunt admitted his friends had encouraged the act, believing it would help them gain social media attention.
He recounted feeling terrified as the train passed over him and confessed that he did not expect to survive.
Not an Isolated Incident
This case adds to a growing list of dangerous acts by individuals seeking online fame. In recent years, several similar incidents across India—including stunts involving leaning from moving trains or climbing atop carriages—have resulted in fatalities.

A separate case in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district recently made headlines when a man filmed himself lying on tracks under a moving train. He too survived, but was later arrested after the video circulated online.
Authorities Call for Responsibility
The Government Railway Police condemned the Boudh incident as a serious breach of safety, calling it a wake-up call about the impact of digital validation on impressionable youth. Officials are working with local schools and families to raise awareness about railway dangers and promote responsible social media use.
As the video continues to circulate, it serves as a sobering reminder of how the pursuit of viral content can end in tragedy—or in this case, a narrow escape. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to preventing similar acts and ensuring that India’s growing digital culture does not come at the cost of young lives.
