Targeted Shooting Occurred After Midnight
On Tuesday, 17 June 2025, two men were brutally shot dead in a targeted ambush by a group of masked assailants outside the Viva Home Shopping Mall along Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras, shortly after midnight.
According to reports, the attack took place around 12.15 am when the victims were walking toward a red car parked at the shopping complex’s entrance.

A group of men wearing helmets and masks suddenly rushed toward them and opened fire.

Both victims were shot multiple times and collapsed near their vehicle.
One victim was gunned down behind the car, while the other was shot as he attempted to enter the same red car.

According to Berita Harian, the suspects fled the scene in a Perodua Alza, a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV).
Suspects Lingered to Ensure the Victims Were Dead
Video footage of the attack captured five masked men carrying out the shooting.
The assailants spent at least 22 seconds at the scene, continuously firing to ensure both victims were killed.
18 Bullet Casings Found, Victims Suffered Gunshot Wounds
18 bullet casings were later recovered from the scene, China Press reported. Based on preliminary findings, the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
One of them, identified as Xu Luguang (transliteration), was hit six times in the face, head, and back.

The second victim, Chi Shi Zhou (transliteration), was shot three times: in the chest, back, and left side.

Victims Linked to Gang Networks, One Allegedly Wanted for Murder
According to an earlier report by China Press, both victims were “well-known gang figures” from Sibu and Bintulu (Sarawak) in East Malaysia and had extensive criminal records.
One of them, Xu Luguang, was reportedly linked to a past murder case, allegedly making him a wanted criminal.
Investigators have not ruled out gang rivalry as the motive.
Case Investigated for Murder
Kuala Lumpur police are pursuing the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and a manhunt for the suspects is ongoing.
Witnesses and CCTV Aiding Investigations
The shooting reportedly took place near a convenience store at the mall’s entrance.
CCTV footage from nearby shops is currently being analyzed to assist in identifying the suspects.
Members of the public with information are encouraged to contact Cheras police or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline.
Despite the incident, the mall continues to operate normally.
Recent String of Shootings Raises Alarm
The incident follows another fatal shooting just days earlier, where a man was killed and two others injured by two motorcycle-riding suspects at a restaurant in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
Both cases are being investigated under the same penal code section for murder.
