When Kindness Goes Up, Literally, on a Lift Wall
In a country where public complaints often make the headlines, one couple’s small gesture led to a heartwarming surprise in a Singapore HDB block.
A TikTok user, @/ariyakult, posted a video showing a printed note she saw in the lift of her block. The note read:
“We are getting married on 7 June (Sat) 2025. Just want to let you know there would be some noise due to the celebration. We sincerely apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!”
Other Neighbours Respond with Kind Notes
In the video, @/ariyakult shared that her family decided to respond with their own handwritten message to congratulate the newlyweds.
But when she arrived at the lift, she realised her family weren’t the only ones with that idea.
Post-it notes and small handwritten messages were already surrounding the original wedding notice. Messages congratulated the couple and wished them happiness in their marriage.
A Shared Moment of Joy in the Block
Towards the end of the video, she also wrote, “Super nice of them to be considerate. No complaints from our block, just well wishes.”
The post quickly gained attention online, drawing praise from viewers who appreciated the rare but meaningful show of neighbourly support in Singapore.
Comments Flooded In
One of the newlyweds even found the video and commented, thanking the poster for her kind wishes.
Other comments from the couple and viewers included:
Another commenter expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying it brought a welcome dose of positivity, something they felt Singapore could use more of.
One commenter also stated that it was thoughtful of the couple to go the extra mile by printing out a notice.
Small Acts Go a Long Way
While weddings often come with loud celebrations that might inconvenience neighbours, this couple’s simple courtesy turned into something bigger: a shared, positive experience for the entire block.
Instead of complaints, there was appreciation. Instead of annoyance, there was celebration.
And sometimes, all it takes is a single printed note to bring a community a little closer.
