The crash happened around 7.10 am at Kilometre 12 of the highway, heading towards Seberang Jaya, during the morning rush hour.

A Driver Suddenly Brakes After Encountering Traffic Congestion

According to Central Seberang Perai police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, the accident began when a Honda City braked suddenly along the expressway after encountering traffic congestion ahead.

This caused a chain collision involving 12 cars. Two motorcycles were also caught in the crash.

Motorcyclists Collide After Observing the Accident

After the initial pile-up, two motorcyclists collided into each other while passing the accident site. One of the riders was distracted by the scene and failed to react in time, leading to the collision.

Police confirmed that eight car drivers and two motorcyclists sustained injuries. All of them received medical treatment at Hospital Seberang Jaya.

Traffic Stretched for Over Five Kilometres

Based on reports by Harian Metro, the crash caused a traffic jam that stretched over five kilometres. This caused many commuters who were on their way to work to use different routes to avoid the scene.

Videos circulating online showed several damaged vehicles at the scene. Many of the cars had crushed bumpers, while the motorcycles also showed visible damage.
