Young Girl Electrocuted While Playing on Balcony
A seven-year-old girl in northern Brazil narrowly escaped serious injury after receiving an electric shock while playing on her balcony. Nikolly Gabriela de Sousa was holding a stick decorated with fairy lights when it came into contact with a nearby overhead power line.
The incident took place in Cametá, Pará, and was captured on the family’s home security camera. The footage shows Nikolly swinging the stick behind her head like a fishing rod moments before a burst of sparks erupts and sends her flying backwards.
She fell hard onto the floor and lay motionless as family members rushed to help.
Minor Injuries After Shocking Fall
Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, Nikolly escaped with only minor burns to her hands and legs. She was quickly taken to the local emergency department, where doctors performed a CT scan and discharged her the same night.

Her father, Carlos Roberto de Sousa, described the event as a miracle, expressing relief that his daughter survived without any lasting harm.
Family Raised Safety Concerns Years Ago
According to Carlos, the family had previously alerted the local power company, Equatorial Pará, about the dangerously close proximity of the power lines to their building. However, the company reportedly took no action at the time.

Following the incident, the power provider issued a statement expressing regret and announced plans to assess the situation. The company suggested that conductive material in the toy likely caused the accident and warned homeowners to keep multi-storey buildings at least three metres away from power lines to prevent similar incidents.
A Cautionary Tale About Urban Safety
Nikolly, who remembers little of what happened, said she suddenly felt weak and couldn’t recall falling or even feeling pain. While her story has a fortunate ending, the case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by power lines located too close to residential buildings—especially in urban areas where infrastructure and safety enforcement may lag behind.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if they will impose any penalties or make changes following the family’s complaint and the company’s investigation.
