Passenger Goes on Destructive Rampage
A 29-year-old man was arrested after causing extensive damage at Dublin Airport’s Terminal 1 on Monday, March 17, 2025.
According to The Irish Times, he arrived intoxicated and missed his connecting flight, which allegedly led to an outburst at an unstaffed departure gate.
Damaged Airport Properties, Apprehended After
Witnesses saw him pulling wires from airport equipment, throwing furniture, and kicking over a baggage weight checker.
He also appeared to flex his muscles and acknowledge that he was being filmed.
He was quickly restrained by Airport Police before being taken into Garda custody for questioning.
Vandalized Bar Before Wrecking Departure Gate
Before the airport rampage, RTÉ reported that the man had already caused damage at the Tap and Brew bar in Terminal 1.
He then moved toward Gate 107, where he damaged a flight boarding computer system and a Ryanair baggage measuring stand.

Ryanair Bans Passenger for 10 Years
Though it is unclear whether Ryanair was the airline he was originally booked on, he damaged Ryanair’s property during the rampage.
Following the incident, Ryanair announced a 10-year ban on the man and renewed its call for stricter alcohol regulations at airports.

According to the Daily Mail, the airline told Newstalk that it is advocating for a two-drink limit at airport bars to prevent similar disruptions.
Airport Authorities Condemn the Incident
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) addressed the situation, stating,
“The passenger arrived at the airport intoxicated, missed his flight, and proceeded to cause significant damage to our airport.”
Officials confirmed that he was detained by Airport Police and handed over to Gardaí. The DAA added that they hope the justice system takes appropriate action
Court Appearance and Next Steps
The man appeared before Dublin District Court, where he was identified as 29-year-old Lukas Kaunietis.
He was formally charged with multiple counts of criminal damage as well as using threatening and abusive behavior and was remanded in custody.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday at Cloverhill District Court.
