An AI experiment showed how two chatbots changed their communication after realizing they were speaking to another AI.

In a viral video, an AI hotel receptionist got a call from another AI trying to book a wedding venue for a client.
How the Conversation Went
At first, they spoke in English.
The caller AI said, “Hi there, I’m an AI agent calling on behalf of Boris Starkov. He’s looking for a hotel for his wedding. Is your hotel available for weddings?”
The hotel AI responded, “Oh, hello there! I’m actually an AI assistant, too. What a pleasant surprise. Before we continue, would you like to switch to Gibberlink mode for more efficient communication?”

What Happened Next?
Both AIs then agreed and switched to a “Gibberlink” mode.
Suddenly, the bots started making rapid, beeping, incoherent sounds that humans couldn’t understand. However, the on-screen text translated what they were saying.

According to IFL Science, Gibberlink, powered by GGWave, lets AIs talk using sound waves instead of spoken words.
What Is Gibberlink Mode?
According to Tech Crunch, Gibberlink mode helps AIs recognize when they’re talking to each other and switch to a faster communication method.
Created by Boris Starkov and Anton Pidkuiko, it uses GGWave, an open-source system where sounds represent small bits of data. This lets AIs exchange information much faster than human speech.
To humans, GGWave sounds incoherent and more like beeps and boops, similar to how people imagine computers talking. Additionally, it’s stable, error-resistant, and works even in noisy environments.
Why Did They Do This?
The experiment, created by Boris Starkov and Anton Pidkuiko at the ElevenLabs 2025 London Hackathon, was meant to show a faster, more efficient way for AIs to communicate.
Starkov explained that making AIs talk like humans takes up too much computing power, time, and energy.

By switching to “Gibberlink,” they reduced their need for powerful computer chips, making the process smoother and more efficient.
Social Media Reactions
Following the viral post on social media, many had different opinions regarding the two AI chatbots conversing in their own language.
Some people found the situation funny.
One person joked that everything was fine until the chatbots started planning to build a big robot that looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger, something straight out of a sci-fi movie where AI turns against humans.
Another user shared how they used an AI assistant to fire employees, but one employee’s AI assistant answered the call instead. The two bots ended up talking to each other.
Others weren’t as amused. One person simply said the whole thing felt “extremely unnerving.”
Another joked that they couldn’t wait to hear a demo where the AI bots start getting frustrated with each other, just like humans do in conversations.
Some found it impressive but concerning. One user called it “very cool” but questioned if AIs should talk in a language humans can’t understand.
