A dramatic accident unfolded on February 17, 2025, when a vehicle flew off the Interstate 5 overpass in Sacramento’s Natomas area, California, and crashed onto the busy freeway below.
The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m., with the California Highway Patrol arriving around 12:52 p.m. at northbound I-5 near the West El Camino Avenue offramp.
A Video Footage Caught the Incident
Dashcam footage captured the moment as the car plummeted from the overpass, sending debris from trees scattering across the freeway.
The footage, recorded by driver Kyman Jeung, showed the car and debris falling onto the road, leaving drivers only moments to react.
Jeung was heading home, driving northbound on Interstate 5, when the crash occurred.
Witness Recalls Harrowing Moments
Jeung, who narrowly avoided the falling vehicle, described the experience as surreal. “It’s been hours, and I’m still on edge being so close to what it could have been,” he told KCRA-TV.

He added that the situation felt like slow motion, forcing him to navigate through tree debris on the road. According to Jeung, it was a matter of assessing the situation quickly to find the safest route forward.
“That car really could have landed on any of us that were passing at the time. The two drivers that were on my left were so much closer. I feel like those are the two lottery winners,” Jeung added.
Driver in Critical But Stable Condition
According to Fox News, emergency services arrived at the scene and transported the driver to a local hospital.
The driver was pulled from the overturned vehicle, which landed on the left-hand shoulder of the freeway. Additionally, the driver is in a “critical but stable” condition.

Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, and the driver was the only person hospitalized, police confirmed.
Road Closure
The police temporarily closed West El Camino Avenue between Gateway Oaks Drive and Azevedo Drive to clear the wreckage and ensure the safety of motorists.
The road, which was closed as of 1:29 p.m., fully reopened around 3:15 p.m., according to KCRA-TV.
Investigation Ongoing
The cause of the accident has yet to be revealed. Sacramento police are still investigating how the vehicle ended up going over the overpass.
