A fire broke out at a cannabis farm in Pattaya, Thailand, at around 10:00 PM on February 13, 2025. The fire started on the second floor of a four-story commercial building on Soi Welcome Jomtien, Nongprue.
This facility, which grows cannabis plants, is operated by Little Christiania Co., Ltd.
Firefighters Battle Thick Smoke, No Injuries Reported
When the fire was reported, local police, Jomtien Disaster Relief officers, and rescue volunteers rushed to the scene. However, firefighters faced difficulties due to the thick smoke from the burning cannabis.

According to Matichon, the fire took over 30 minutes to control.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the damage to the building is estimated at 200,000 baht (approx. 7,955 SGD).
Locals and Tourists Affected by Cannabis Smoke
While emergency teams focused on putting out the fire, the thick smoke spread through the area, affecting nearby residents and tourists.
Additionally, those who inhaled the smoke felt dizzy and experienced headaches.

Some were seen laughing uncontrollably, while others had glassy, red eyes. It was also reported that residents and tourists exhibited unusual reactions, making the incident even more chaotic.

Legal Operations and Possible Cause of the Fire
40-year-old Kanchana Fungsanthia, the caretaker of the cannabis facility, confirmed that the farm had all the necessary legal permits for cultivating cannabis.

She speculated that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electrical panel that powered the lighting system for the plants, The Thaiger reports.

Lingering Effects of the Blaze
Once the fire was put out, the smell of burnt cannabis lingered in the air for some time. The strong odor continued to affect people in the area, leaving a lasting impression on the neighborhood.
Impact and Aftermath
Despite the damage, the unexpected effects of the smoke on locals and tourists stood out the most. The lingering smell and unusual reactions made the night unforgettable.
