For some, birthdays are filled with friends, family, and excitement. But for a young Malaysian girl, her birthday almost went by quietly—until a stranger’s kindness turned her day around.
While working her shift at 7-Eleven, an employee named Ellisya noticed the young girl holding a muffin and a small candle. Gently curious, she asked the girl about her choice. When the girl shared that it was her birthday, Ellisya felt compelled to make it a special one for her.
A Small Celebration That Made a Big Difference
Rather than just packing the girl’s items into a bag, Ellisya decided to go further. She lit the candle, placed it on top of the muffin, and began singing “Happy Birthday.” The girl’s face lit up with surprise and happiness as her modest birthday plan became a shared, heartwarming celebration.
According to WeirdKaya, Ellisya learned that the girl had planned to sing to herself, as she didn’t have friends or family with her that day. The girl’s simple plan reflected quiet strength but also a deep loneliness, which moved Ellisya to show her kindness and warmth in that small moment.
The Story That Touched Thousands
Ellisya later shared the story on TikTok, which has now been deleted, where her small gesture touched thousands of people who praised her for her kindness. Many people in the comments were all wishing the young girl a happy birthday.
Some commenters even asked for the young girl’s address as they wanted to give the young girl a birthday present.
“Where does she live? Please share her location. Who knows some kind people want to give her presents or treat her.”
“Where does she stay…I (sis) want to send her a present..If I come by your shop, can you let me know her details?
Another commenter mentioned that this young girl may be able to live her life independently and may be able to find happiness on her own.
“This girl looks like she can be happy on her own..She knows how to find her own happiness.”
While another commenter stated that this would be the best moment the young girl would cherish for the rest of her life.
“This would be the one moment she will remember for the rest of her life.”
The Follow-Up: A Deeper Understanding of May Yi’s Situation
Additionally, there was more to the story than the viral video revealed. In a follow-up video, Ellisya shared that she had met with the girl’s guardian and learned about the girl’s condition. May Yi, the girl in question, has been diagnosed with a learning disability and faces difficulties with reading and writing.
“They have explained everything to me, and I hope no one disturbs her anymore because of that video,” Ellisya stated in her caption.
She added that May Yi’s family hopes she will be able to attend a vocational school for students with disabilities, where she could learn craft-making—something May Yi is deeply interested in.
The original video has since been taken down.
