Suspect Detained Near the Crime Scene

The police have arrested a man named Manikandan, who lives just 100 meters from where the suitcase was discovered. During interrogation, Manikandan revealed that he murdered Deepa, a 32-year-old sex worker after a quarrel over money escalated.

He reportedly used a hammer in the attack and later dismembered her body before placing it in the suitcase. The woman, identified as Deepa from Madhavaram, had her body sent for a postmortem shortly after the discovery.

Discovery and Investigation

The suitcase was spotted by a resident of the Kumaran Kudil area, prompting them to call the police. Investigators have obtained CCTV footage from the area to assist in their ongoing investigation. Deepa, also known as Vellaiammal, was last seen on Wednesday when she went to Thoraipakkam, where she had met Manikandan through a pimp.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Deepa’s death. Her brother reported her missing when he couldn’t reach her on her mobile phone, which had been switched off.

He tracked her phone’s last location, leading him to inform the Thoraipakkam police station. The police are also attempting to locate the pimp who introduced Deepa to Manikandan. More information is expected as the postmortem results and CCTV footage provide further insights into the crime.
