A regular evening at home turned into a life-threatening ordeal for 64-year-old Arrom Arunroj when she was attacked by a 4-metre-long python in Samut Prakan, Thailand. On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, around 8:30 PM, Ms. Arrom was washing dishes in the back of her house, which is adjacent to a forest.
Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her thigh—initially mistaking it for a cockroach—only to realize that a massive python had sunk its teeth into her.
As the snake coiled around her, constricting her body, Ms. Arrom desperately tried to fight it off. She grabbed its head in an attempt to loosen its grip, but the python’s strength overwhelmed her. Despite her best efforts, the snake tightened its hold, leaving her struggling for breath.
A Long, Desperate Struggle
For nearly two hours, Ms. Arrom fought to free herself while calling for help, her voice weakening over time. Her ordeal might have gone unnoticed had a neighbor not passed by her home around 10 PM and heard her faint cries. The neighbor quickly contacted emergency services, setting the stage for her rescue.
According to Bangkok Post, when rescuers from the Samut Prakan Poh Tek Tung Foundation arrived at the scene, they were faced with a locked door. They forced their way into the house, where they found Ms. Arrom lying on the floor, pale and exhausted, with the python still tightly wrapped around her.
Rescue Efforts and Recovery
The rescue team worked for about 30 minutes to free Ms. Arrom from the snake’s powerful grip. Though pythons are not venomous, she had suffered several bite wounds, which rescuers warned could cause infections. After receiving first aid, she was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Ms. Arrom, who has been living alone since her husband’s death last year, recounted that the attack occurred shortly after she had finished dinner and was cleaning up. She is currently recovering in the hospital, thankful that her neighbor’s timely intervention saved her life.
