Dr. Oumair Aejaz, a 40-year-old Indian doctor residing in the United States, has been arrested and is facing a $2 million bail (approximately 2,606,578 SGD) after being charged with multiple sex crimes. These charges include recording thousands of nude images and videos of children and women for six years. More than 13,000 videos were discovered on a single hard drive, and authorities seized an additional 15 storage devices during their investigation.
Background of the Arrest
Oumair Aejaz, who specializes in internal medicine, moved to the US from India in 2011 on a work visa. His medical career includes training at Sinai Grace Hospital in Michigan and subsequent employment at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Ascension Genesys Hospital. Most recently, he worked in various medical roles across Michigan.
The investigation began on August 8 after Aejaz’s wife alerted authorities with evidence of his illicit activities. Searches conducted at their home in Rochester Hills, Michigan, revealed that Aejaz had installed hidden cameras in bathrooms, changing rooms, and even his own home. According to Fox News, these cameras recorded disturbing footage of individuals, including young children as young as 2 years old and unconscious women. Authorities are also looking into whether some of these recordings were uploaded to cloud storage
Charges, Legal Proceedings, and Ongoing Investigations
On August 13, Aejaz was formally charged with several offenses, including one count of child sexually abusive activity, four counts of recording unclothed individuals, and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime. Additionally, prior to his arrest, he had no criminal record. The investigation into Aejaz’s activities is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of his actions and identify all potential victims.
