Dramatic Final Night
A final football match in Brazil broke out, to the point of 23 players being sent off after a huge brawl between Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro. It was also the final of the Campeonato Mineiro, a big state football championship. Thousands of fans gathered in Belo Horizonte to watch the fierce rivalry. Cruzeiro won the match 1-0 after striker Kaio Jorge scored the winning goal.

The victory gave Cruzeiro their first Minas Gerais state title since 2019. According to a video, tension suddenly rose in the final seconds of the match. Players began arguing near the penalty area, and the situation quickly turned into a major confrontation that shocked fans inside the stadium.
Clash on the Pitch
The trouble started when Atlético goalkeeper Everson pushed Cruzeiro midfielder Christian to the ground while chasing a loose ball. The two players collided during play, but Everson reacted angrily and placed his knee on the midfielder’s chest. That moment immediately angered Christian’s teammates.

Several Cruzeiro players rushed toward the goalkeeper and pushed him back toward the goalpost. Within seconds, more players joined the confrontation. According to video reports circulating online, shouting and pushing quickly spread across the field. When the situation intensified, security guards and stadium staff ran into the pitch. Military police also moved closer to the field to help separate the teams and stop the fight.
Record Red Cards
Referee Matheus Delgado Candancan struggled to control the chaotic scene. Because the confrontation continued, he could not show red cards during the match. Later, Brazilian media outlet Globo reported that officials reviewed the footage after the game. Following the review, authorities confirmed that 23 players sent off would be the final decision.

Cruzeiro had 12 players dismissed, including goalscorer Kaio Jorge. Atlético Mineiro had 11 players sent off. Among them were famous players such as former Brazil forward Hulk and defender Renan Lodi, who previously played for Atlético Madrid. The unusually large number of dismissals quickly became a major topic in Brazilian sports media.
Rare Football Chaos
Such large fights rarely appear in professional football. However, history shows one even bigger incident. In February 2011, a match in Argentina between Atlético Claypole and Victoriano Arenas ended with all 36 players sent off after a violent fight. After the Brazilian final, Hulk said the situation was regrettable and admitted players must protect the image of football. Meanwhile, both Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro continue to struggle this season in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. After four matches, both teams remain near the bottom of the league table without a victory.
