Tehran’s historic Golestan Palace was filmed on Tuesday, standing with glass decorations smashed after airstrikes amid ongoing US-Israeli attacks have hit multiple areas across Iran.
“On March 1st, due to an explosion that occurred in a building adjacent to the Golestan Palace in its southern part as a result of an aerial attack, damage was inflicted upon this World Heritage site, which is also subject to international laws. This damage was primarily to decorative elements dependent on architecture, especially wooden components,” stated Afarin Emami-Far, the manager of Golestan Palace.
“The damage is mostly in the decorative sections and is observed sporadically throughout the entire complex, all due to the blast wave. If I want to talk about them in a list, there’s the marble bed in the Hall of Mirrors, sections of the mirror work in the Brylian Palace and the Shams al-Omareh Palace, the Badgir Palace, and the most damage was in the Abyaz Palace, which was adjacent to the impacted building; in reality, the windows were completely shattered, and some of them were twisted and torn out,” she added.
Emami-Far confirmed that the palace officials have started compiling an initial damage assessment, with experts scheduled to conduct thorough on-site evaluations and detailed documentation of the losses.
Golestan Palace stands as one of Iran’s most significant cultural heritage sites. Located in central Tehran near the Grand Bazaar, this UNESCO-listed complex features numerous historic palaces and halls dating back to different eras.
The developments follow a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran on Saturday, with U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to ‘destroy Iran’s missiles’.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps said that ‘widespread missile and drone attacks’ against Israel were underway. US bases were also reportedly targeted in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait.
