A 17-year-old who was seen riding her motorcycle against traffic on the North-South Expressway claimed she had mistakenly followed her phone’s navigation app, which led her into the wrong lane.
Surrendered Herself to Police
Additionally, she voluntarily appeared at the Kota Setar District Traffic Police Station at approximately 9 pm on Sunday, July 6, two days following the incident, which took place on July 4 near the Hutan Kampung Toll Plaza, according to Malay Mail.
A 23-second video of her riding against the flow of traffic went viral on Facebook.
Claimed She Was Heading Back to Pendang
According to Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad, the teenager told police she was on her way back to her hometown in Pendang, Kedah, and had relied on her phone’s navigation app for directions.

She claimed the app had led her onto the wrong side of the expressway.
Police Seized Motorcycle for Investigation
Police have since seized the motorcycle believed to have been used in the incident.
Authorities are currently probing the matter under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to driving in a reckless and hazardous manner.
If found guilty, she could face up to five years in prison and a fine between RM5,000 (approx. S$1,504) and RM15,000 (approx. S$4,514).
Remand Application Underway
Siti Nor Salawati added that the teenager would be brought to the Alor Setar Magistrates’ Court for a remand application to assist with the investigation.
