A woman in India was allegedly injected with an HIV-infected needle by her in-laws after her family refused to meet their steep dowry demands.

The incident took place in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Marriage, Dowry, and Harassment
Sonal Saini married Abhishek, also known as Sachin, in February 2023. At the wedding, Abhishek’s family received a car and Rs 15 lakh (approx. 23,000 SGD) in cash as dowry.

However, they were reportedly dissatisfied and started pressuring Sonal’s family for a Scorpio SUV and an additional Rs 25 lakh (approx. 38,600 SGD).

Refused Additional Dowry, In-Laws Kicked Her Out
When Sonal’s family refused, she was allegedly harassed and eventually thrown out of her in-laws’ house. Fortunately, a local council later intervened, allowing her to return.
Furthermore, reports suggest that she continued to endure physical and emotional abuse.
Shocking Medical Diagnosis
Sonal’s health began to decline rapidly after moving back in with her husband’s family. Concerned, her parents took her to a doctor, where tests revealed she was HIV-positive.

Shockingly, her husband tested negative, raising suspicions that she had been deliberately infected.
According to her family, Sonal was made to allegedly take unknown medications and was possibly injected with an HIV-infected needle.

However, when they reported the matter to the police, no action was taken, leading them to seek legal intervention.
Legal Action Taken
A local court has since ordered the authorities to register a case against Abhishek, his parents, and other family members.

The charges include dowry harassment, assault, and attempted murder.
While authorities have confirmed complaints were filed, the claims about the alleged HIV injection remain as allegations until police say otherwise.
