Husband Sells Kidney to Ease Family’s Financial Struggles

A man from Sankrail, Howrah district, India, was allegedly coerced by his wife into selling his kidney under the pretext of securing funds for their daughter’s education.

According to reports, the woman persistently pressured her husband for over a year, convincing him that the money would improve their family’s financial condition.

Eventually, the man found a buyer and underwent the surgery. After receiving Rs 10 lakh (approx. SGD 15,443.19) from the sale, he thought his sacrifice would benefit his family.

Wife Allegedly Had Other Plans

While her husband was focused on improving their situation, the woman had reportedly developed a relationship with a man named Ravi Das from Barrackpore, whom she met on Facebook.

In a report by News18, after her husband’s kidney sale, she eloped with Ravi, taking the entire Rs 10 lakh (approx. SGD 15,443.19) with her.

Husband’s Family Tracks Her Down

Realizing the betrayal, the man and his family, including his daughter, went to the woman’s residence in Barrackpore.

Upon their arrival, the woman refused to come out. Ravi allegedly warned them that she would file for divorce, citing claims of mistreatment by her in-laws throughout their marriage.

Despite repeated pleas from her husband, in-laws, and child, the woman remained inside and did not engage in further discussions.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the incident, the husband filed a police complaint. Authorities have launched an investigation based on the complaint and available video evidence.

The woman has denied taking any money other than what she saved, according to Deccan Herald.

Police are expected to question both the woman and her alleged lover before deciding on further legal action.
