Bride Halts Wedding Just Before Sacred Ritual
On Friday, May 23, a wedding in the Hassan district of Karnataka, India, took an unexpected turn when the bride called off the ceremony just before a crucial ritual was to take place.
The event occurred at the Sri Adichunchanagiri Kalyana Mantapa, a local wedding hall.
Pallavi, a postgraduate, was about to marry Venugopal G, a government school teacher, in front of hundreds of guests.

The couple had reached the stage where the groom was about to tie the ‘mangalsutra,’ a sacred necklace symbolizing marriage in Hindu tradition, around the bride’s neck, when the ceremony was suddenly interrupted.
A Phone Call Changes Everything
According to India Today, Pallavi received a phone call shortly before the mangalsutra ritual. After the call, she went into a room, locked the door, and refused to come out.
Family members tried to persuade her to return, but when she finally came out, she told the groom and her family that she was scared and did not want to go through with the marriage.
Admitted She Loves Another Man
She then admitted she was in love with someone else.
A family member explained that the man she loved was from a different social background, and she had not told anyone about the relationship because of this.
Bride Claims She Was Forced Into Marriage
In a report by Deccan Herald, Pallavi also told the groom that her parents had pressured her into agreeing to the marriage.
The call she received before the ceremony was allegedly from the man she was in love with.
Her sudden decision sparked arguments between the two families at the venue. The situation grew tense, prompting the police to intervene and bring the gathering under control.
Police Step In, Families Come to an Agreement
Police officers took both families to the local station for a discussion. After speaking with them, they convinced both sides to cancel the wedding peacefully. The families agreed to share the wedding expenses.
Despite having spent a large sum on the wedding, Venugopal also agreed to call off the ceremony. He reportedly said he did not want to marry someone who was not willing to do so.
Bride Walks Away With Man She Loves
Following this, Pallavi left the marriage hall with the man she said she loved. No formal complaints were filed by either side, and the matter was resolved without any legal action.
