Pages Missing During Immigration Checks

A 51-year-old man from Pune, India, was arrested at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday, 14 April 2025, for allegedly tearing pages from his passport to hide previous trips to Bangkok from his family.

According to NDTV, the man, identified as Vijay Bhalerao, was stopped by immigration officers during routine checks at the airport. 

Immigration Officer Noticed Inconsistencies

During the early hours of Monday, immigration officer Rajiv Ranjan Kumar, who filed the complaint, noticed something unusual when Bhalerao showed up at the counter. 

As the officer processed his documents, he noticed something wasn’t right. Pages were missing from his passport.

Trips to Bangkok Allegedly Hidden from Family

While being questioned, he admitted that he had torn out certain pages from his passport about a year ago.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) cited by The Indian Express, he said the missing pages contained immigration stamps from previous trips to Bangkok visits he allegedly wanted to keep hidden from his family.

Police said Bhalerao had travelled to Bangkok four times in 2024.

Investigations Ongoing

Following this, Bhalerao was taken to the Sahar Police Station, where he was booked under the Passport Act and other applicable Indian laws.
