An alarming incident took place on 15 February in Antalya’s Serik district when an unidentified man attempted to set a parked tractor on fire but accidentally ignited himself.
He arrived on a motorcycle late at night, poured gasoline over the vehicle, and set it alight.
Unfortunately, the gasoline on his clothes and motorcycle also caught fire. In a frantic attempt to save himself, the suspect removed his burning jacket and fled, leaving his motorcycle behind.
Incident Details
The attempted arson occurred at night on the day of the incident. The suspect, whose identity is unknown, rode into the area on a motorcycle and doused a tractor, owned by local businessman Orhan Karasu, with gasoline.
As he set the tractor ablaze, the flames spread unexpectedly, catching his clothing and motorcycle on fire. Authorities were immediately notified and are now working to identify and locate the suspect.
Emergency Response
Startled by the fire, nearby residents rushed to the scene and attempted to douse the flames with water hoses. Firefighters and police teams arrived promptly after authorities were alerted.

The authorities extinguished the fire eventually, but the suspect had already fled on foot, abandoning his damaged motorcycle. Investigations are currently underway to identify and locate the individual responsible.
Caught on Camera
Security footage from the area clearly shows the suspect’s actions. The video captures him arriving on a motorcycle, pouring gasoline from a bottle onto the tractor, and setting it on fire.

Within moments, the flames rapidly spread, engulfing not only the tractor but also his own motorcycle. Authorities are using this footage to aid their investigation.
Business Owner Speaks Out
Orhan Karasu, the owner of the tractor and a well-known tradesman, expressed his anger and concern over the incident.

He stated, “At around 1:30 AM, a man on a motorcycle tried to burn my tractor and other vehicles. I’ve been in business for 35 years and have never had disputes with anyone. This is disgraceful. If the fire had spread to the natural gas supply, lives could have been at risk. Whoever did this should be punished.”
Previous Targeted Attacks
Karasu also revealed that his business had been targeted before.
“I don’t know who holds a grudge against me. My child has been assaulted twice, my natural gas pipes were damaged, and now my tractor has been set on fire. This is pure brutality. The suspect ended up setting himself on fire, yet he managed to escape. I urge law enforcement to analyze the footage and catch him before something worse happens.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation, reviewing security footage to track down the perpetrator.
