A visit to one of Thailand’s most iconic landmarks took an unexpected turn after a fight broke out between two groups of tourists at the White Temple in Chiang Rai.
Wat Rong Khun, commonly known as the White Temple, is best known for its intricate white façade and serene atmosphere. The contemporary Buddhist temple attracts thousands of visitors daily, many of whom come to admire its art and spiritual symbolism.

But a recent incident at the site left onlookers stunned.
Argument Escalates in Temple Grounds
According to videos circulating online, the confrontation involved a group of Taiwanese tourists and a group of Thai visitors. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated, with raised voices drawing the attention of nearby tourists.
Moments later, the argument turned physical.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the groups were seen pushing and striking one another within the temple grounds, prompting shock and confusion among other visitors. Several people could be heard shouting as bystanders tried to distance themselves from the altercation.
Authorities Step In
The clash has renewed conversations in Thailand about visitor behaviour, particularly as international travel continues to rebound.
Many locals and social media users have emphasised that temples are not just tourist attractions, but sacred spaces that require respect, patience and awareness of local customs.

Authorities have since reminded visitors to remain mindful of their actions, noting that misunderstandings can arise when people from different cultural backgrounds gather in crowded spaces.

Still, they stressed that conflicts should never overshadow the purpose of visiting such landmarks.
Cultural sites, many argue, should remain places of learning, reflection and shared appreciation — not confrontation.
