The prevalence of news related to stray cats, encompassing issues like sexual harassment and mistreatment, has grown. Within our own neighborhoods, encounters with stray cats are frequent. Given their status as strays, it prompts the need for proactive measures to address their welfare and well-being.

Why?

The abundance of stray cats in Singapore is attributed to lax regulations on ownership, facilitating the ease with which owners can abandon their cats.

The lack of mandatory sterilization contributes to the unchecked birth of feral cats. Additionally, there are instances of breeders engaging in cat trading without genuine concern for the well-being of these animals.

How?

Despite efforts from the government and various cat protection organisations to address the issue of stray cats, individual responsibility is equally important in contributing to solutions.

Before deciding to bring a pet cat into your home, it’s crucial to ensure that you are prepared for the long-term commitment and responsibility of caring for them. Avoid impulsive decisions and, most importantly, never neglect or abandon a cat once they become a part of your family.

  • Volunteer

With a surplus of stray cats and a shortage of volunteers, numerous organisations are dedicated to cat welfare. Consider joining these initiatives, contributing your time whenever possible to help care for these cats in need.

  • Cat Feeding

Many neighborhoods have community cat feeders who play a crucial role in caring for stray cats. You too can contribute by feeding strays when needed, actively participating in supporting the well-being of these community cats.

It’s essential to be aware of the issue of stray cats and the various ways to address it. Rather than contributing to the stray cat population, focus on supporting their well-being through responsible actions and involvement in initiatives aimed at helping them.
