A man in Thailand slapped a nurse at Rayong Hospital on Sunday, February 16, 2025, after his daughter was denied entry to the intensive care unit (ICU) to visit her grandmother, who was being treated for influenza A.

Incident Captured on Security Camera
The altercation occurred around 6:30 p.m. and was recorded by a hospital security camera. The video was shared on Facebook by Thanakrit Jitareerat, Thailand’s vice minister for public health.

The footage showed the man—wearing an orange T-shirt and shorts—talking to nurses at the ICU before suddenly slapping one nurse twice in the face.
He attempted a third slap but missed.
Nurse Cited Safety Concerns for Child
The conflict began when the nurse advised the family that allowing the child to enter the ICU could endanger her health.
The grandmother, who had been hospitalized with influenza A, posed a risk of infection to the young girl, according to hospital staff.
Hospital Takes Legal Action
According to Bangkok Post, Dr. Surawit Sakdanupap, a senior provincial health official, held a meeting with hospital staff and management after learning about the incident.
On Tuesday (Feb 18), Rayong Hospital announced it had filed a police report against the attacker and intended to pursue legal action.
Police Report and Man’s Admission
Police said the man admitted to the assault, acting out of anger. Additionally, with no remorse, the man reportedly told police,
“I should have slapped her outside the hospital. It was the wrong decision to slap her while she was on duty.”
Man Shares His Side of the Story
Following the incident, the man took to social media to share his perspective. The man and his family were worried about the grandmother’s condition, and his frustration boiled over when his daughter was denied entry.
He claimed the nurse’s remarks insulted his family, resulting in his aggressive reaction.

His wife added that the grandmother, who had contracted influenza from their child, wanted the child to visit her for comfort.
Nurse Stands by Her Actions; Man Will Face Legal Actions
Furthermore, according to The Thaiger, the attacker’s wife alleged that the nurse said,
“Losing a mother isn’t enough? Do you want to lose your child as well? Can you accept that? Take your child out of the room immediately.”
In response to this, during an interview with local media, the nurse admitted to making such a stern statement. However, she insisted she intended to protect the child from the potential danger of influenza A.
She explained that other medical staff had already warned the family twice about the safety concerns before the situation escalated.
Police have confirmed that the attacker would face legal action.
