A 50-year-old male care worker has been arrested by Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police for allegedly attempting to sexually assault an elderly woman with dementia at a group home in Taito Ward, Tokyo.
The suspect, identified as Takahiro Torii, is accused of molesting the woman, who is in her 70s, inside a stall of the facility’s shared restroom between May 10 and June 11, according to reports.

Suspect Admits to Filming, Denies Rape
According to investigators, Torii allegedly filmed the act and stored around 20 videos of the victim on his smartphone. The footage suggests the abuse occurred on multiple occasions.

Police suspect these videos were recorded in secret while Torii was working his shift at the group home.
Suspect Did it to Relieve Stress
Torii was arrested on suspicion of attempted non-consensual sexual intercourse and violating the Act on the Punishment of Filming Sexual Activity, according to Tokyo Reporter, citing Kyodo News.
While he denied the former accusation, he admitted to the filming, telling officers,
“I sexually harassed her to relieve stress.”
He reportedly added that the woman had used abusive language toward care workers, Japan Today reported.
Abuse Discovered During Separate Death Investigation
The case came to light during a separate police investigation into the death of another elderly resident at the same care facility.
While examining Torii’s belongings, police discovered the videos on his smartphone.
During the investigation, officers seized three smartphones and three personal computers from his residence for further analysis.
Suspect Had Worked at the Group Home Since 2014
Authorities stated that Torii had been working part-time at the group home since autumn of 2014 and was assigned to care for the victim. The alleged assaults took place while he was on duty.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are continuing to examine the contents of the seized devices to determine the full extent of the abuse.
