Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, Le Minh Hung, was sworn in as Vietnam’s Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term on Tuesday, pledging to fulfil the duties entrusted to him during a ceremony in Hanoi.
Footage shows Hung taking the oath before the National Assembly under Vietnam’s national flag.
“Under the sacred red flag with a gold star of the Fatherland. Before the National Assembly and the voters nationwide, I, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, do swear: To be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” he said, addressing lawmakers and voters nationwide.
In his statement, Hung reportedly said his government will focus on building a modern, service-oriented administration, targeting annual economic growth of at least 10 percent through innovation and digital transformation.
He also pledged to prioritise social welfare, human development, and the effective operation of a new two-tier local administration model.
Parliament approved his appointment with 100 percent of votes from members present, electing the Politburo member and Party Central Committee secretary as Prime Minister.
Hung becomes Vietnam’s 10th prime minister since 1945 and the second head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission to take the role.
Hung’s swearing in comes on the same day as lawmakers unanimously elected Communist Party Secretary General To Lam as state president, marking a departure from Vietnam’s traditional collective leadership model, allowing for faster, more centralised decision-making.
