Police Chief Left Bleeding After Clash
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, was injured on Thursday (September 11, 2025) during an eviction operation in Kuala Lumpur.
According to reports, he sustained a bleeding wound to his face after a group of individuals forced their way into the eviction site at Kampung Sungai Baru.

Crowd Attempted to Enter Eviction Site
The clash happened when residents and supporters demanded access to the site while enforcement officers were carrying out the eviction.

Their push turned the scene chaotic, leaving Sulizmie hurt in the process.

The operation was conducted under a court order, led by a bailiff and supported by several government agencies.
Longstanding Dispute Over Redevelopment Project
The eviction stemmed from the controversial redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru, an area within Kampung Baru near KLCC.
Berita Harian reported that the land had been acquired under the Land Acquisition Act 1960 for a mixed development project involving condominiums and commercial buildings.
While some residents accepted compensation packages and relocation, others refused, saying the offers were unfair.
After negotiations failed, the court authorized demolition of the remaining houses, which authorities argued had become unsafe and were obstructing progress.
The project is part of Kuala Lumpur’s 2040 city transformation plan, though critics insist Kampung Baru’s heritage should not be lost to modernization.
Anwar Condemns Attack as “Vile Act”
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim strongly criticized the assault on Sulizmie, describing it as “a vile act” carried out by irresponsible parties.

In a Facebook post, he said the government has always respected the right to peaceful assembly, but warned that freedom must be exercised responsibly and within the law.
Additionally, he had instructed authorities to investigate immediately and arrest those responsible.
“Peaceful assemblies must not be misused for narrow political agendas or to create unrest among the people,” Anwar said, cautioning that violence sparked by incitement, hatred, or misinformation cannot be allowed to take root in society.
