Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares from Madrid on Tuesday, welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend attacks on Iranian power plants.
“We value the announcement by the President of the United States to suspend attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, which should become a permanent announcement, and should lead to a return to the negotiating table,” he said.
Albares also urged Iran to stop ‘attacks against Gulf countries’ and ‘unblock navigation in the Strait of Hormuz’.
“All parties must show restraint, de-escalate the conflict, and immediately mitigate the destabilising impact it already has on a global scale,” Spanish minister added. “The extension of the war to Lebanon, where the threat of an Israeli invasion to the south of that country which we condemn as a sovereign entity, and the bombings over Beirut already have catastrophic humanitarian consequences.”
This comes after Trump announced on his Truth social network the postponement of “any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period.”
The US and Israel have been engaged in a military conflict with Iran since February 28, which began with the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Over 1,400 Iranians have been killed since then, and at least 18 Israeli deaths have been confirmed.
The conflict has expanded to include Hezbollah in Lebanon and has disrupted regional energy flows, pushing oil prices above $100 per barrel and increasing pressure on global markets.
